Understanding Happiness: A Guided Well-Being Experience
What this workshop is about
This workshop is an interactive, science-based experience designed to help you better understand what truly contributes to happiness and how to apply it in your own life.
It is a synthesis of three online courses on well-being—Harvard's Managing Happiness, Yale's The Science of Well-Being, and UC Berkeley's The Science of Happiness. It is combined with practical application activities that I've designed to help you reflect, engage, and integrate these ideas in a meaningful way.
Rather than simply learning concepts, you'll actively experience them through guided reflection, small group discussions, and simple exercises that make the ideas personal and applicable.

About Me
Hi, I'm Elaine Suva. A few years ago, I lost my husband of many years, and at the time, I genuinely thought I would be unhappy for the rest of my life.
That experience led me to ask a very personal question:
How could I be happy again?
If I could learn how to find happiness again after experiencing that kind of loss, I felt that I could help others improve their well-being as well.
I've always been interested in human behavior. I studied psychology in graduate school, but most of my professional life I've worked as an English as a Second Language educator.
I went on to study the science of happiness through online courses from Harvard (Managing Happiness), Yale (The Science of Well-Being), and UC Berkeley (The Science of Happiness). Along the way, I also completed a Happiness Coach Certification.
What I discovered was that many of the things we believe will make us happy don't have the impact we expect. At the same time, there are simple, research-based practices that can make a meaningful difference, if we actually apply them.
This didn't just help me heal—it transformed how I think, how I experience life, and who I am today.
This workshop is a synthesis of what I've learned and lived, combined with practical activities designed to help you reflect on and apply these ideas in your own life in a meaningful and lasting way.
